Computing Innovations have had an enormously positive impact on our lives from healthcare, efficiency, agriculture, and much more. We can do now what would have been impossible just a hundred years ago. However, with positive change comes unintended consequences. Computing innovations can be used positively or negatively in ways that developers did not expect or prevent from happening. A modern example of this is AI. AI has very positive impacts in automation and pattern recognition, streamlining industry processes, and teaching new skills to people. However, AI has also been used in negative, unforeseen ways. Some people use AI to search up how to build bombs or partake in criminal and illegal activity. Others use it to cheat academic assignments. If someone is in school to potentially become a doctor, they have the responsibility of people's lives at stake and using AI for assignments in medical school can be dangerous because they may be less prepared for their job. Overuse of AI can result in dependence on machine learning which is an unfortunate negative effect of this computing innovation. Mary Carmichael from the ISACA recommends that "emerging technology aligns with the company's strategic vision," reminding innovators to stay based in their original goals of new technology and to be responsible in ensuring the safety of their products. This may include vigorous user testing of their software or product and increased cybersecurity.
